I got her on Saturday, March 6th, in the afternoon. they tried to find a hamster that wouldn't run away and wouldn't bite, and what we came up with was Eve. She's a Winter White Russian Dwarf (or so they said at the pet store), and she sat in my hands and climbed up to my elbows, not biting and not running away. she was adorable, and i knew she was the one i wanted. She went back in her cage while we picked out her new cage for her while she's mine, as well as getting info on food, treats, bedding, sleeping, chewing, etc. We got the food and the pet store guy got my little one for me and put her in a travel container. We took her home, got her habitat set up, and put her inside. We'd been debating on naming her Abigail or Eve, and we settled on Eve. Because of her personality and her coloring, it fits. I wasn't allowed to bother her for three days, to let her get accustomed to her new home, and to make sure she was healthy.
Tuesday after i got her, i took her out of her cage, and i put her in a small plastic bucket, for her to crawl around in, and for me to pet her, hold her, etc. we played for a few minutes, but she was noticeably nervous, and started nipping at my fingers after a while, so i put her back in her cage. We gave her a carrot as a treat that day.
We continued with the taming process the rest of the week, and i went out of town for the weekend, leaving my mom to feed her and my brother to play with her. They did, and made considerable progress in taming her. When i got home, she would take corn or seeds out of our hands, and she wasn't shaking like crazy when held (aka she wasn't as terrified). shortly after that, i bought her a hamster ball, which she enjoys running in. she also love running in her wheel. It's been two and a half weeks that i've had her, and now she'll climb on me and explore. We love sitting in a clean, empty bathtub, her running around and me relaxing and watching her play. We did that for an hour this evening.
All in all, she's gotten much more used to me. She prefers the corn husk chews i got for her over the wood blocks i got for her originally. I had to replace her water bottle, because the original bottle was difficult for her to drink from, and she likes the new one much better. She loves sunflower seeds, sometimes she'll pouch them, sometimes she'll sit there and crack open the shell to get to the seed.
i'll post pictures soon, i have a lot of those. videos too.
